Complex carbs (starches) - include grain products, such as bread, crackers, pasta, and rice. As with simple sugars, some complex carbohydrate foods are better choices than others because they are unrefined sugars and tend to contain many vitamins and minerals.
Refined sugars are manufactured sugars typically present in candy and other unhealthy snack foods. It is best to avoid these foods if you can do so.
